Uganda focus on Karamoja World Tourism Day 2021
Karamoja Tourism Academy & Inclusive Tourist Trail
Until recently, Karamoja was not very accessible. Safety and security has returned, infrastructure is improving, power and water is been connected and roads are been constructed. You can see the signs, new hotels are been built, tourist arrivals are visibly increasing…there is the opportunity for a new economic development that can help the local people to a better future.
But the local people are not prepared and tourist are not informed. The Warrior Nomad Trail is an initiative of Kara-Tunga to bridge this gap through skilling, product development, marketing and communication. Learn more.
Discover Karamoja project
Discover Karamoja is an Kara-Tunga initiative founded in 2016, aimed at positively impacting the negative stigma of Karamoja (northeast Uganda) and its people and thereby support sustainable development through tourism. Learn more.
The potential of tourism in Uganda is enormous. The ‘Pearl of Africa’ is famous for its gorilla’s and chimpanzees, but has much more to offer. The active tourist can go hiking, mountaineering and mountain biking. The cultural tourist will be amazed by the numerous local traditions, customs, arts & crafts.
2016 was not the first time that Theo Vos had traveled to Karamoja. It was the first time that he felt brave enough to travel around and sleep with warriors in the bush, and explore the mountains freely by feet, motor bikes and cars without security.
Africa Without Borders – With pride, we present a colourful nine-spread feature of our cross-border Warrior Nomad Trail in the Dutch Columbus Travel Magazine.
