January 2023 – Dutch Travel Magazine Columbus created a list of the 23 trending destination to visit in 2023 and Karamoja made it to the list!
Uganda is a white spot on the map for many travellers. Visitors usually find their way to the south-west to see the mountain gorillas or the more easy to reach safari parks. The pristine northeast is still completely off the beaten track. Here near to the border with South Sudan and Kenya, you can go on unforgettable safari in Kidepo Valley National Park. Another highlight is a visit to the Karamojong and nomadic pastoral people who will give you a warm welcome.

Theo: Thanks to its rich and well-preserved culture and nature, Karamoja has the potential to become a forerunner in the field of community tourism Travelers have an increasing need for personal contact and want to leave a positive impact on the country they visit.
Residents therefore eagerly embrace this form of income, but are not aware of the possible consequences of tourism. As an organisation, we feel responsible to inform the population and give them the opportunity to decide their own norms and values. Together we therefore have the Karamoja Tourist Pledge, where residents set clear expectations for tourists. By giving the local population control over the development of the tourism sector, this can be done in a sustainable way.
It’s an absolute milestone for the Karamoja Tourism Academy to host one of Uganda’s most famous travel journalist and marketeers ‘Charlotte Beauvoisin’ (Diary of a Muzungu) for the first time in Karamoja sub-region. Charlotte is facilitating a 4-day digital marketing introduction training for local tourism startups to strengthen the capacity of stakeholders along the Warrior …
So energised after finally meeting Giorgio Andrian together with Catholic Diocese Moroto who are spearheading the designation process of Matheniko Wildlife Reserve and Mount Moroto into UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve.
Gabriel Gersch supports development Uganda’s Warrior Nomad Trail – Gabriel has a special connection with the wilderness and especially Karamoja. Seven years ago, it’s believed that he was the first modern-day adventurer to walk the full length of Karamojaland in 100 years. He is therefore the perfect person to help develop the long-distance walking trail.
We are so happy that Karamoja has been represented so well at this year’s tourism expo of Uganda. And to top it off, we won the award for most sustainable exhibitor!
