The Polish adventurer Bartek Zobek has marked the first three trails on Mount Kadam, located in northeast Uganda on the Karamoja Plateau.
The polish adventure enthousiast called Bartek Zobek fell in love with Mount Kadam and spearheaded the marking of trails in January 2021.
His motivation to develop hiking trails on Mount Kadam is to share the beauty of Mount Kadam with other people, to protect the forest from illegal logging and to uplift the local community out of poverty through ecotourism. Follow his project at www.savekadam.org
Mount Kadam
Mount Kadam (highest peak 3060 meters above sea level) and the second highest peak on the Karamoja plateau. The moutain is loved by those seeking an off-the-beaten-path hiking and trekking adventure in Uganda and East Africa at large. The volcanic massive is surrounded by lush African montane forest cover, an indigenous community called the Kadama and far-stretching views from every viewpoint on the trails.
Blue Trail
The first marked trail is the 7-8 hours Blue Trail. It starts east from Nakapiripirit town at 1,500 and ends at 2,300m above sea level. The trail leads you first through community gardens whereafter it climbs into the lush African Montane forest, along traditional with homesteads of the Kadama, steep white rock faces and great viewpoints. The trail offers you the opportunity to spot the resident Black-and-white Colobuses monkey, White Crested Hornbill bird and many more species on the way.
Green Trail
The second marked trail on Mount Kadam is the Green Trail that is a continuation of the Blue Trail. The Green Trail continues for 1.5 hours towards the summit and ends at 2,700m above sea level with a phenomenal panoramic view. The so-called ‘Rysy’ camp is located along the Green Trail at 2,500m altitude. The camp offers hikers a place to easilit put-up hammocks or ground tents.
Red Trail
Bartek mapped the third trail named ‘Red Trail’ In January 2023 on Mount Kadam. The Red Trail leads hikers through a ‘ dark and mossy forest’ the third peak measured at 3,030m altitude.
