Kara-Tunga opens Karamoja’s first Tourist Information Centre along the main street in Moroto town on 1st April 2018.
For 18 months Kara-Tunga has been working hard to draw tourists to the Karamoja region in northeast Uganda. One of the most important lessons we learned is that the lack of information has kept many travellers from taking the eastern route to Kidepo Valley National Park or traveling southwards to Sipi Falls, Mount Elgon, Jinja and Kampala.
Community opportunity
Karamoja Tourist Information Centre offers local entrepreneurs and community members an opportunity to display and market their products and services like tour guides, accommodations, car rentals and local artists.
Tour guides
Local tour guides play an important role in connecting travellers with their natural habitat and rich cultural heritage. The Karamoja Tourist Information Centre offers the ability to book an experienced and reliable local guide for a pre-designed guided tour or a fully customised private expedition.
Arts & Crafts
The Karamoja Tourist Information Centre supports local artists by offering training to improve product quality and providing a market on a prime location to reach a wider audience.
Tuesday, 13th December 2022 – Regional tourism and hospitality stakeholders congregated in Moroto for the 4th edition of the Karamoja Tourism Coordination Platform.
Near Moroto we privately had a traditional Karamojong village tour with a local guide. Normally, I don’t like village tours, but this was better than expected and pure.
I’m very excited to announce our partnership with Endiro Coffee, Uganda’s leading coffee brand with an incredible track record in community development, by opening the first ‘Endiro Trailhead’ branch with us in Karamoja!
Saturday 21st October 2022 – The Dutch ambassador flagged off the Tour of Karamoja and launched the Warrior Nomad Trail.
