Physical fitness level
Anticipate average daily distances ranging from 60 to 90 km, coupled with elevation gains between 700 and 1500 meters on different days. Therefore, a good level of physical fitness, considerable endurance, and thorough preparation are recommended to fully enjoy this adventure.
Technical difficulty
You’ll encounter trails that are mainly hard-packed gravel with occasional loose surfaces, flat roots, and loose sharp rocks, which might require you to ride standing up at times. You should also expect wider paths with unavoidable obstacles and possibly some more challenging singletrack sections with steeper gradients.
Bicycle type
While the majority of the tour might be manageable on a gravel bike, having a mountain bike with XC (cross-country) tire width is recommended to confidently handle all trail conditions. The rocky downhills, washboard gravel sections and single tracks occasionally scream for a full suspension for the best comfort during a long day on the saddle.
The Tour of Karamoja is more than just a bike event. It is an opportunity to experience the rich culture and stunning scenery of least travelled East Africa. Riders will meet different cultures, see untouched landscapes and create opportunities for the most vulnerable girls in this area.
The Tour of Karamoja 2021 has come to an end with the last 7th day – also known as the Safari Stage – where the participants ride through the breathtaking scenery and encounter the wildlife of Uganda’s most applauded Kidepo Valley National Park.
