We are proud to support the first two Collaborative Forest Management (CFM) Groups of southern Karamoja with Karamoja Conservation Zones Initiative.
The CFM group in an effort of Uganda Government National Forestry Authority to improve forest conservation and the livelihoods of forest-adjacent communities.
Karamoja is unique compared to other Central Forest Reservers in Uganda. The region’s indigenous minority groups have lived within the reserves far before gazettement of the protected areas in colonial days. The CFM group is therefore an important tool for the government and the community to collaborate.
Through our Karamoja Conservation Zones initiative, their first activities are restoration of degraded areas, deployment of patrolmen to improve monitoring, development of community tourism activities and conducting agroforestry activities as income generating activities in designated areas.
