Jana: “Wow what an experience. We drove to the Karamoja Cattle Market. There, women sold mangoes, a man repaired a mobile phone, there were various spices and vegetables and also meat (at 40 degrees, unimaginable in Europe) Maria, my interpreter, bought 12 mangoes for the equivalent of 26 cents? and she bought tamarind for her cereal.”
Karamojong Kraal / Traditional Cattle Camp visit
Jana: “A beautiful sunset over the African steppe. Our jeep didn’t make it the last few meters. At the sandy foot of the mighty Mount Moroto we stumbled over the thorn bushes with our flip flops. You can’t drive to the Kraal, you have to walk there. Already at the 1st gate (there are many gates) we met the first goats coming back from the grazing. How loud it was, those bleats……
In the evening we drove to a kraal in the mountains. When we arrived, the animals were being herded back into the kraal. There were several gates, the fence was made of thorn bushes. With us came a herd of goats, each family had their own herd and their own “stable”, that’s a piece of land with a small fence around it, in the middle of the kraal (village). The thorns are supposed to keep wild animals and thieves away. There were not only goats and cows, no, there were also camels, at least 20 of them.
We saw the most beautiful sunset here, Maria loved these photos.”
